Body Language and Attraction

Body Language and Attraction

It's spring! Maybe the snow hasn’t melted yet but the time has come to shave our legs more often. During the winter, it is so easy to just “Netflix and chill”. We become more relaxed about reading body language and consciously sending the right messages to our admirer.

A study done in nonverbal behaviors found that those living closer to the equator show more nonverbal cues when compared to people who lived closer to the earth's poles.* Here, in Upstate New York, we are actually closer to the equator than the north pole. Not by much, however, this means we must practice just the right amount of non-verbal communication. What makes up non-verbal communication?

Eye Contact

Research has found that when another person looks directly at us, we process their features more fully and faster, and we remember them better than when the same person does not look directly at us.**  When we lock eyes with someone we are interested in, we want to learn about them just as much as we want them to learn about us. Having the right amount of eye contact is crucial, too much can be intense, too little can come across as disinterested. This is especially true if you are breaking eye contact to look at your phone!  Body Posture and Proximity

Let’s be real, confidence is sexy. Our boudoir photographers are masters at posing women into confident positions while accentuating their best assets. Having close proximity with your admirer sets off social cues for attraction. Even how you move your body is an important elements of non-verbal communication.

Facial Expressions

What a person is attracted to, when it comes to facial expressions may vary from person to person. Nobody likes a resting B!*#% face so I like to refer this as checking your autopilot face. In both our professional and personal lives, everyone would like to be referred to having a warm personality. Traits that convey “warmness” are being nice, friendly, funny and approachable. Soft smiles and bursts of laughter will always be attractive.

Scent

The scent is the most underrated part of nonverbal communication. We often forget just how powerful smells are in our lives. When scents trigger memories they are more likely to be vivid and can be an emotional experience. Much like with photos, scents create that feeling of “being brought back in time”. Leaving your favorite perfume in expected and unexpected places can make sure you’re unforgettable.

Touch

The most common non-verbal behavior, touch is a powerful action that happens most often in a sexual context. A loving touch releases oxytocin, the “the love hormone” in the brain. According to Paul Zak, director of the Center of Neuroeconomics Studies at Claremont Graduate University, physical touch boosts our mood, strengthens our immune system and reduces stress”. Most of us can agree that everyone wants to be loved and accepted. Physical touch is a great way to strengthen that bond.

Boudoir Photography is actually a great representation of non-verbal communication. The Boudoir Studio photographers are experts in coaching clients through posing and expressions to achieve the sexy or sweet look that you are going for. If you are like me, and are unsure of how to convey the right messages through your photos, you can be assured that you will be working with right professionals.
