A 30-Day Challenge to Developing the Habit of Self-Love

One of the most important tasks we could ever undertake is developing a greater appreciation and love for our own selves. We go through life giving the best that we have to everyone else just to come up empty by the time it’s our turn. That is such a backward or upside-down system. The reason being, that it leads to disillusionment and burnout. We can only give and keep on giving that which we posses in the first place. An empty cup is incapable of pouring anything substantial into another cup. Yet we keep on giving pieces of ourselves while running on empty. One of my favorite passages encourages us to “love others the same way we love ourselves.” The tragedy is that we think it’s an obligation to love others and give to others even if it takes us to the grave before it’s our time. The command isn’t to forsake self and make others a greater priority but the exact opposite! The command, first and foremost, is to prioritize loving ourselves the best way we possibly can and then, and only then, to extend that same love to others! If we consistently treat ourselves with contempt and disregard then the sham or facade of loving others is bound to collapse sooner or later. So why set ourselves up for such a disaster when it is in our power to succeed in a great way?

I invite you to go on a 30-day journey with me to develop the habit of self-love. I’ve created a challenge just for you to take the next 30 days to focus on YOU. Fill your own cup first so that you have something to pour into the cups of your loved ones each and everyday. Set an example for them by developing a system of filling your own cup so they can have an example to look up to and develop a habit of loving themselves too. Imagine being in a place where you’re cup is so filled that you have no sense of lack or despair that someone else failed to prioritize you. I’ve found that during the times of my life where I have made others a big priority and chosen to pour into them, while I’ve been empty, I’ve secretly hoped and even expected to have my cup filled by one of them. Here is the reality - sometimes they failed to pour back. They were so empty themselves that they soaked up all I had with nothing left to reciprocate and now I found myself twice empty! The end result was that I became increasingly resentful and angry with the very people I “loved.” Now I found myself entertaining thoughts like “they don’t love me back. They don’t value me. Why do I keep making sacrifices for them and get nothing in return.” Do you see the irony in such a way of “loving others?” It’s a house of cards that is bound to come crashing down someday.

So why not build the house wisely in the first place? When my cup is full to the brim, it is natural to spill over. I find myself operating from a place of abundance and not lack. In such a state, it has been my experience, the more I give the more my cup seems to be full and running over. All because I prioritized self-love above loving-others. Ironically, I ended up with more love to share and not miss a thing!

So join me on this 30-day challenge to developing greater self-love and nurturing your self-worth! Every single day, I will go live on our facebook page for 5-7 minutes introducing the challenge for the day. Afterwards, I ask that you dedicate 10 minutes of alone time where you can focus on nothing but YOU! That’s it. Can you do that? Let’s go!

Ps - every day I will add the link to the resources for the challenge to this blog post so come back to it everyday to download your daily challenge and then watch the video I post on our facebook page. (You don’t even have to join me live. Watch it when you can at your own pace! :)
